First Place winner for creative writing at Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference, Colette Freedman is the Associate Artistic Director at Sidewalk Studio Theatre and has had over 25 major plays and adaptations produced around the world including "First to the Egg" (Grand Prize winner Urban Insider, Semi finalist Turnip Festival), "Ruby Slipper" (Semi finalist ATC Theatre Fest), "Shoshannah’s Shabbat” (Finalist at The Actors Theatre of Louisville Short Play Festival), "Bridesmaid #3” (Semi finalist Riant Play Festival and Strawberry Theatre Fest) “Serial Killer Barbie” (Brooklyn Publishers). Other produced plays include “Sister Cities”, “Soap Boxing”, "If Nietzsche Dated", “Deconstructing the Torah” "Field Hockey Legs", "Looking for Atticus Finch", "Cross", "Trick or Treat", "Rock, Paper, Scissors", and her modern adaptation of “Iphigenia at Aulis”. Her plays have been seen across the United States as well as Scotland, Australia and England. Colette was commissioned to adapt both Anna Dillon's best selling book "The Affair" as well as "Fanny and Felix" about the young composers, for the Mendelssohn Project.
In film, her scripts “Dead Red” and "Quick Stix" are currently in development. Her television show “WWJD” is in consideration at a few companies and her Young Adult vampire novel "The A+ Girls" is currently being shopped around.
Her hit play "Sister Cities" (NYTE PRESS) is being turned into a feature film by Firefly Pictures and had its New York Premiere last fall, to rave reviews, at the T. Schreiber Studio.
Colette also does script doctoring for films and plays, writes and produces and directs commercials. She has won 59 Telly, Communicator and International Summit Awards for her directing and writing.
